Brittany Smith was crowned Miss Illinois 2013 at the end of the Miss Illinois Scholarship pageant held on June 29th, 2013 at the MARION CULTURAL AND CIVIC CENTER in MARION. She will represent the state of Illinois at the upcoming Miss America 2014 pageant, scheduled to take place in Atlantic City this September.
Brittany placed in the Top 5 at 2012 Miss Indiana Scholarship Pageant.
At the time of crowning, Brittany Smith is the reigning Miss Northern Suburbs. She also won the talent award on Wednesday during the preliminary competition. Brittany performed an Irish step dance, “Reel around the Sun.”
Her pageant platform is “Kick up your Heels: Keeping Older Adults Active.”
According to Miss Northern Suburbs website, Brittany is a medical assistant and professional dancer who graduated from Purdue University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health & Kinesiology and a minor in Dance.
Smith has been dancing since the age of six after falling in love with the production, ‘Riverdance’. She attended York High School where she was a four year member of the York Pom Dance Team, captain her senior year. She performed and competed Irish dance at the regional, national, and international level, placing 36th in the Scotland World Championships in 2007.
The first runner-up was Savannah Teegarden, who was also a former Miss Indiana Scholarship Pageant contestant;
The second runner-up was Jennifer Carr of Capital City;
The third runner-up was Marisa Buchheit of Chicago;
The fourth runner-up was Erin Baynes of Gurnee.
Earlier, Isabelle Ann Hanson, who attends Benet Academy in the northern suburbs of Chicago, was crowned the title of Miss Illinois’ Outstanding Teen 2013.
