Since 2006, Ecuador has been hosting this beauty pageant under the name Miss Continente Americano (Miss American Continent) with contestants from the America continent. They have all been previous contestants, finalists or winners of Miss Universe, Miss World, and other major pageants from their respective nations.

Taking into consideration the strong international recognition of the pageant in conjunction with its extraordinary success, the director and owner of this franchise, Maria del Carmen de Aguayo, decided to expand it worldwide. In doing so, the name of the pageant has been changed from Miss American Continent to Miss United Continents. And this year is the first year, contestants from around the global competed in the pageant.
