“I was a bit hesitant at first but the pageant has a strong environmental focus so it has such a great cause behind it,” she said.
“Before the event contestants do all kinds of environmental activities like clean up days and tree plantings.
“I have been passionate about the environment for a while now. Environmental awareness and sustainability is so important and it is scary to realise that what we have now might not be around forever unless we do something.”
I made it to the top 10 in the pageant last year and I thought that was fantastic so I couldn’t believe it when I won this year,” she said.
“We had categories like evening gowns and ball gowns and we got our hair and make up done so it was like other beauty pageants in that sense, but it has a very strong ecological aspect.”
