Nineteen-year-old Jessica Marfeo was crowned Miss Rhode Island 2013 at Rhode Island College on June 1, 2013.
Marfeo’s local title was Miss University of Rhode Island, and she beat a field of nine contestants, including others that were rumored to be favorites in the competition. It became clear that Marfeo caught the judges’ eye after she nearly swept the preliminary awards, including the talent award, for her crowd-rousing rendition of “Orange Colored Sky” by Milton Delugg and Willie Stein.
