Megan Cooley crowned Miss New Hampshire 2014

Twenty-year-old Megan Cooley was crowned Miss New Hampshire 2014 on May 3, at the Pinkerton Academy in Derry, NH.

Cooley had been battling a sore throat, but said that was only affecting her speaking voice, not her singing, when she was interviewed on stage, just before her performance of “On My Way.”

Cooley lives in Auburn, NH, and attends the University of New Hampshire. Her local title was Miss Greater Derry.

Her platform is “Championing Abilities,” and her goal is to become a Pediatric Oncologist, and work at Boston Children’s Hospital. She lists her greatest achievement as organizing “The Scarf Project,” which brought scarves to patients at Boston Children’s last year.

Cooley said her plans for her year of service are simple. “To represent this state as well as I can,” she said, just after her crowning, “to be the best that I can be, and to serve my platform.”

Cooley said she has performed in musical theatre productions since she was a child, and one day one of her directors, who happened to be Miss New Hampshire 2003, Candice Glickman, urged her to compete.

“I really, really needed the scholarship money, so I started to compete,” Cooley said.

Cooley is just the second state titleholder crowned for the Miss America 2015 competition, and said she is excited to be heading to Atlantic City in September.

“I can’t wait to start preparing for Miss America,” she said. “It’s a dream of mine to walk on that stage.”

Megan’s court includes the first runner-up Holly Blanchard; the second runner-up Riley Field; the third runner-up Nichole Iacuzio and the fourth runner-up Michelle Mayer.
