Thoroughman, a Scioto County resident and Senior at Minford High School, bested 18 other teen contestants to win the title.
Her pageant talent is as a vocalist.
Her pageant platform is children and heart disease.
“When you think of heart disease, you think of adults,” she said in a recent presentation to the Kiwanis Club of Portsmouth. “But recent articles in the newspaper show Scioto County as the unhealthiest county in the state and that statistic isn’t only adults, that includes children and teens.”
“Ask yourself how many risk factors effect you, your children and grandchildren and then start taking an active role in making changes that will have lasting effects,” she said.

“It was so much work but, every bit of it was worth it, with the feeling that came of hearing my name being called as the winner,” Thoroughman said. “I certainly did not expect it but, when I heard my name called it was the best thing in the world. It’s really indescribable. It’s likely the best feeling I’ve had in my life so far. I was just so happy.”
Her 1st runner up was Amelia Hitchens. The 2nd runner up was Jessica Vasiliades. The 3rd runner up was Hannah Tumbusch and the 4th runner up was Rosie Westerbeck.
Later, Heather Wells is the winner of Miss Ohio 2013 and will compete at Miss America 2014 pageant this September in Atlantic City.
